Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a treatment?

Firstly, I will ask some questions relating to your horse and any issues you may have. Then, I'll look over your horse and watch them move. After feeling your horses muscles I'll treat any sore areas using massage and stretching techniques.

Do you need permission from my vet?

If your horse currently has no issues which are being treated by a vet or any issues that should be seen by a vet (such as wounds), I do not need to contact your vet for permission before a massage treatment.

Do I need to do anything before & after the treatment?

Before your treatment you need to make sure that the horse is reasonably clean and that there is a safe area on your yard to carry out the treatment. After the massage, I will give you instructions for anything I think may be helpful for your horse to do in the days following the treatment.

Is sports massage only for competition horses?

Even though it is called ‘Sports Massage Therapy’, all horses can benefit from a massage, not just those who are in work and competing regularly. Various massage techniques can be employed to improve the health and wellbeing of competition, leisure and companion horses.
